Check out our Dry Eye Kit!

by Dr. Kristel Rogers

Dry Eyes is a common condition due to lack of lubrication of the eyes. It can occur if your eyes don’t produce enough tears or make poor quality tears. Symptoms may include burning, stinging, redness, tearing, and visual fluctuation. Dry eye is exacerbated by inflammation, dry/windy environments, hormonal changes, computers, and certain medications.

Treatment for dry eye has grown extensively over the past several years. Mild dry eye may be treated with artificial tears. Regular use of eye drops can prevent discomfort associated with dry eye. Which one is right for you depends on the type of dry eye you have, so let our trained doctors evaluate and make a proper recommendation.

Fish oil supplements are also beneficial for dry eyes. Fish oil reduces inflammation which helps promote a healthier tear film. We strongly encourage patients to use a triglyceride form of fish oil which is more refined, higher quality, and easier for our bodies to absorb. We offer simple blood testing to measure your absorption of fish oil before and after initiating proper supplementation.

Warm compresses are also helpful to heat and melt the oil in the eyelids which provides the outer, protective layer of the tears. We carry warm compress masks in our office that are designed specifically for eye use.

Our Starter Dry Eye Kit includes a 60 day supply of fish oil, warm compress mask, and a bottle of artificial tears specifically recommended for you.

Some patients require additional treatment for dry eye including prescription drops, punctal plugs, and eyelid cleansers. Our doctors are available to listen, evaluate, educate and treat your irritated eyes so don’t go another day with uncomfortable eyes.
